Quindece's Story

When Vision Becomes Reality

“To me, home is a place of peace, rest and a safe space for raising my beautiful kids.”

This summer, Quindece achieved her vision of becoming a Habitat homeowner and opened the doors to a new life with her children.

Today, you can make a direct impact on families like Quindece’s by making a gift here.

Vision

Quindece’s vision came to life at 25 when she was a young mother, raising her four children (Najennah, Khaliq, Janabi and Khanis), and facing many financial roadblocks at the time. Despite the challenges, she knew she wanted to become a homeowner and escape the endless cycle of renting. When she discovered Habitat’s Homeownership Program in a digital advertisement, Habitat became the number one goal on her vision board.

The Journey

When Quindece first applied to the Homeownership Program, she was denied because of a challenging credit history. She told herself, “No, I’m not giving up!” and started taking classes, learning more about financial stability and investing in herself. “I was rebuilding my life back up,” she said.

In May 2022, Quindece was officially accepted into the Habitat Homeownership Program and began completing 125 sweat equity hours and other program requirements. Each requirement she completed was a box she could check off to be one step closer to achieving her vision.

Home Dedication

After a year of hard work and determination, August 24 finally marked the big day. Quindece received the keys to her home at Coltrane Commons in Strawberry Mansion with her children as the Habitat Family celebrated with her. Quindece’s daughter Najennah said it best,

“This day will forever be the best day of our lives. This is the beginning of a new chapter of a better life for us. Thank you for making my mom’s dream come true.”

Homeownership

Since moving in, Quindece’s life has changed drastically for the good and even getting her kids ready for the school day has gotten easier. No more running around first thing in the morning but instead, there has been greater peace with the routines they’ve been building and following together. Quindece’s next goals include paying off the house, starting new holiday traditions with her kids, becoming a foster parent to two children to extend the love, joy and stability that her family now has.

“It’s been a long journey and I had to go through the storm to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but the Habitat program really gave me a chance to provide a better life for my family.”

Quindece is one of five homeowners who has achieved her vision of homeownership at Coltrane Commons. Now 16 more families are ready to achieve theirs as well.
