Meet Francisco, ReStore Volunteer

“The people I work with are the reason I keep coming back.”

If you have ever visited our South Philadelphia ReStore, then committed volunteer Francisco Davis is likely a familiar and friendly face behind the cash register. Since 2017, the 28-year-old has been a vital part of the Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia ReStore family.

Francisco receives disability benefits due to a car accident years ago. Since he is not able to work full-time, he was in search of opportunities to keep himself involved in the community.  Two years ago, Francisco’s aunt suggested he reach out to the Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia ReStore, and a mutually beneficial partnership quickly formed. Francisco’s desire to meet new people, give back, and stay engaged was met, and the ReStore gained a reliable team member to assist customers every day.

Francisco knew that the Habitat for Humanity ReStore was the place for him when he met the ReStore’s amazing team of sales floor associates and truck drivers. He particularly enjoyed seeing the different kinds of donations the store receives each day, and is appreciative that there is never a dull moment. You might find Francisco behind the cash register, in the warehouse, or assisting Fred, who partners with ReStore customers to deliver their new goods to their homes.

Francisco emphasized that his “co-workers” continue to be one of his favorite parts of volunteering. Going to Phillies and 76ers games, and spending quality time with his Habitat family have left him with memories and friends he’ll keep forever. His commitment to the store and his team is apparent in his commute: Francisco makes the journey from North Philly’s Hunting Park neighborhood to the ReStore in Point Breeze every day by bus. Though it’s a distance, Francisco finds his time with Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia well worth the trip. “The people I work with are the reason I keep coming back.”
