Thurmon Cohen
Senior Director of Programs
An engineer with more than 35 years of real estate development and construction management experience, Thurmon oversees Habitat Philadelphia’s core services.
As Senior Director of Programs, Thurmon is responsible for all real estate development, construction operations and homeowner services. From acquiring new land, developing and building new homes, and creating opportunities for first-time homebuyers, Thurmon’s team is integral to every step of Habitat’s homeownership program.
An experienced people and project manager, Thurmon is skilled at navigating complex partnerships to deliver projects on time and on budget. He has worked with government agencies, corporations, and nonprofit organizations to create impact across the spectrum of affordable housing.
A native of East Orange, New Jersey, Thurmon earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Drexel University and continued his professional education at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Urban Land Institute, and MIT School of Architecture. He holds a Project Management Professional certificate and is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. He previously served as Chairman of Housing and Neighborhood Development Services (HANDS, Inc.), the East Orange Chamber of Commerce, and East Orange Housing Authority in East Orange, New Jersey.
