Pope Leo Village
Building Homes, Communities and Hope
Inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s commitment to human dignity, service, and social justice, an Anonymous donor created a powerful partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the United States. His intention: engage youth, young adults, people of differing faith traditions to build hope, connection and community.
Pope Leo Village will engage more than 30,000 volunteers across 22 cities and build more than 255 homes.
Pope Leo Village reflects a shared belief that every person deserves a safe, affordable place to call home, and that people of goodwill can work together to create lasting opportunities for families and communities.
“As Pope Leo XIV reminds us, service to others matters deeply when so many families need quality affordable housing.”
— Anonymous Donor, Pope Leo Village
Why Housing Matters
A stable home creates a foundation for:
- Economic opportunity
- Educational success
- Health and well-being
- Family stability
- Stronger neighborhoods
- Environmental stewardship
Housing is more than shelter. It is a cornerstone of human dignity and an essential ingredient in thriving communities.
Philadelphia’s Pope Leo Village
In Philadelphia, Pope Leo Village encompasses 26 affordable homeownership opportunities in the Sharswood and Brewerytown neighborhoods. The initiative includes both the rehabilitation of existing homes and the construction of new homes, expanding access to affordable homeownership while contributing to neighborhood revitalization.
“Pope Leo Village reflects the very heart of Habitat’s mission—to bring people together, put faith into action, and build safe, affordable homes alongside families.”
— Corinne O’Connell, CEO, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia
