2017 Impact Report

Philadelphia is booming.

There is no doubt about it. The skyline is dotted with cranes, new houses and buildings are going up in the blink of an eye, and there is an influx of young people moving into the city, infusing new energy around town.

While some things change, others remain the same. Despite the many statistics that show Philadelphia moving forward, the poverty rate is still the highest of the ten largest cities in the U.S. Forty-two percent of Philadelphians continue to be cost burdened, spending more than thirty percent of their income on rent, and forcing tradeoffs: Less money spent on healthy food, doctor visits, and other necessities.

How do we ensure that our flourishing city remains one rich with history, diversity, accessibility, and brotherly love? How do we safeguard Philadelphia as a city for all, where everyone has a decent place to live?

For a mother of two in North Central Philadelphia, ten years of Habitat homeownership taught her young sons responsibility and commitment. For a second-generation U.S. Army Veteran in Strawberry Mansion, a new kitchen maintains his pride in his family home. For the Sharswood neighborhood, improvements to important community spaces empower the community to move forward with expanded resources.

Our work at Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia builds strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership at the individual, home, block, and neighborhood levels. This past year, we built thirteen new homes, repaired ninety, and revitalized more than ever before to guarantee access to decent, affordable housing remains a priority in this growing city.

Thank you for your support in building a Philadelphia where everyone has a decent place to live.
