Coltrane Commons

Homes Built by Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia

Our vision is a city where everyone has a decent place to live. Alongside families, community partners and volunteers, we work to reduce barriers to affordable homeownership in Philadelphia.

Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia is excited to announce the development of Coltrane Commons, 21 newly constructed single and multi-family homes on Oxford Street in North Philadelphia.

The homes will be 1-4-bedroom, 1-1.5 bath homes located between 32nd and 33rd Streets. The development includes one wheelchair accessible unit with a first-floor bedroom and a second full bath. All Habitat units are built to Energy Star standards, allowing 21 more Philadelphia families to have a safe, warm and dry place to call home.

Habitat’s unique Homeownership Program partners with first-time homebuyers who might not otherwise qualify for a traditional mortgage, opening doors of opportunity to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Neighborhood Context
Strawberry Mansion

Named after jazz musician John Coltrane, who once called 33rd Street his home, this development is a reflection of this neighborhood’s cultural roots. Coltrane Commons is located in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of North Philadelphia, with close proximity to Fairmount Park, academic institutions, and cultural landmarks.

Habitat Philadelphia continues to support the revitalization of Strawberry Mansion, partnering with community organizations and development companies to bring this collective vision to life. In addition to the 21 new homes, Habitat Philadelphia also carries out substantial home renovation and repair projects in this area.
