Want to get involved with Habitat’s work beyond the occasional volunteer day? Want to experience a year building skills and making powerful connections with the people and neighborhoods of Philadelphia? Welcome to AmeriCorps at Habitat: dynamic, demanding, and rewarding. AmeriCorps members join Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia for ten months, helping us serve families in need of housing across the city. Members have various roles at Habitat, but are united around the desire to provide safe, affordable housing for all Philadelphians.
AmeriCorps Opportunities
AmeriCorps members contribute a year of service and in return receive a modest living stipend, a basic health insurance plan, an education award, job training, and personal and professional growth opportunities. You will leave your year of service not only with new transferable skills, but also with a sense of community that comes with no other employment opportunity.
AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of $15,570 for the program term (before taxes, as of 2020). The living allowance will be distributed every other week, and is subject to taxation.
AmeriCorps members also receive an educational award of $$6,095 (before taxes, as of 2020) granted upon completion of the AmeriCorps term. A partial educational award will not be issued if a member leaves his/her term of service early. The award can be used to pay off present educational loans or can be used to pay for future schooling. (The award can be used up to seven years after the member’s final date of service). Please visit the AmeriCorps website for further information and restrictions regarding benefits.
