Habitat Philadelphia Recognizes Brewerytown Sharswood Neighborhood Coalition with Good Neighbor Award

Habitat Philadelphia is proud to recognize the Brewerytown Sharswood Neighborhood Coalition (BSNC) with the Patrick F. Monaghan Good Neighbor Award at the 2026 Building Hope Luncheon, honoring the Coalition’s extraordinary commitment to resident leadership, neighborhood revitalization, and community‑driven change.

The Good Neighbor Award celebrates an individual or organization whose volunteering and partnership reflect the very best of our mission. We deeply value BSNC’s work to strengthen community and actively engage residents in collective action. Their shared belief in the power of home—to transform lives and open doors of opportunity—has helped create real, lasting change alongside Philadelphia families.

What makes BSNC special is that it is truly resident‑led. Rooted in Brewerytown and Sharswood, the Coalition has grown into a powerful force for neighborhood advocacy—bringing neighbors together through clean‑ups, community surveys, and organizing efforts, and standing up for critical resources like the Cecil B. Moore Library.

“Strong neighborhoods aren’t built by programs alone—they’re built through relationships,” said Corinne O’Connell, CEO of Habitat Philadelphia. “BSNC reminds us how important it is to invest in social capital and support residents as they build power, block by block and neighbor by neighbor.”

Cierra Freeman, Co‑lead of Culture & Strategy at BSNC, shared, “Being resident‑first means our neighbors aren’t just giving input—they’re leading the way. This recognition affirms that the people most impacted by decisions should be the ones shaping them.”

We’re honored to celebrate BSNC and look forward to recognizing them on stage at the 2026 Building Hope Luncheon.
