2023 Summer Impact Report

Our Vision: A city where all Philadelphians have a decent place to live.

Home is where we all start our day, and the impact of a safe, stable home cannot be overstated. Having a solid roof overhead allows children to flourish at school, families to grow, and communities to thrive.

Too many Philadelphians lack access to decent, affordable housing, and with our city’s aging housing stock and economic challenges, every day one in four people wake up faced with the impossible choice of paying rent or putting food on the table.

Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia has been working alongside homeowners since 1985 to alleviate the unrelenting need for quality, affordable housing. In the past 37 years, we have built and repaired more than 1,000 homes. But we need to do more.

Thanks to your support, our organization is growing like never before. Our next 1,000 projects will be achieved in just five years. This progress would not be possible without our incredible community alongside us.

It has been a busy and joyful summer filled with transformational moments. Together, we:

  • Celebrated Habitat Philadelphia’s 250th home dedication, welcoming home Latrece and Dwight into the first of 21 homes being built at Coltrane Commons in Strawberry Mansion.
  • Held the Grand Opening of our second ReStore location, bringing Habitat’s community-centered retail model to North Philadelphia and creating an additional revenue stream to support our core programs.
  • Welcomed home SIX families to Page Street in Diamond Park with our largest-ever simultaneous home dedication. This means 16 children will start the school year with a stable and comfortable place to study.

Building Hope LIVE & Home WORKS

At this year’s Building Hope LIVE event, you joined us in the belief that Home WORKS for improving mental health, creating generational wealth, and advancing educational opportunity.

The support of more than 300 donors helped us raise $510,479, and this incredible generosity equips us to increase our impact and say yes to more homeowners.

Thank you for empowering us to address the incredible need for affordable housing in our city.

Strategic Growth: Home Repairs

The most affordable home is the one you’re already in, and we are committed to working alongside existing homeowners to provide critical repairs and keep families, seniors, and veterans in their homes.

Last year, we reached a new milestone by completing 100 home repairs in a single year. Thanks to funding from private foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors, we can increase our capacity by 30% each year until 2026, when we will set a new standard of repairing 200 homes per year.

The work that Habitat Philadelphia engages in – the work that you believe in – has had a lasting impact on the 3,500 lives we have touched throughout our history. I said it before, and I’ll say it again: at Habitat, we believe in hope. Hope multiplies, and I am truly proud of the difference we have made together. The future is brighter today thanks to your continued commitment to building hope. Everyone deserves a decent place to live, and it starts with one home, one family, one block, one neighborhood, one city—you, me, we!

With great appreciation,
