2022 Impact Report

Laying the Foundation

from CEO Corinne O’Connell:

27

100

critical home repairs scheduled for next fiscal year

Last fiscal year (July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022), Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia worked alongside more than 90 homeowners, stood shoulder to shoulder with neighborhood residents on issues important to the community, advocated for crucial housing policy legislation, and laid the foundation for unprecedented building in the year ahead.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our Habitat Family.

Because of you, we launched We Build Together, our first-ever sustained fundraising campaign, and not only did we reach our $5 million goal-we crushed it.

Because of you, we sent hundreds of messages to elected officials asking to prioritize affordable housing in our state.

And because of you, we will build more new homes in the next 12 months than ever before.

Read below for more highlights from this past fiscal year and be incredibly proud of the part you played in helping us lay the foundation for the year to come.

the ReStore

The ReStore is Habitat’s discount home improvement store located in South Philadelphia.

We sell new and gently-used furniture, appliances, building supplies, home goods and more. Habitat uses 100% of ReStore profits to build and repair homes in Philadelphia. This fiscal year saw the ReStore shatter sales records and was so successful that we will open a second store in early 2023!

race & housing

At Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, our vision of a city where everyone has a decent place to live cannot be achieved without acknowledging the inhumanity endured by people of color for centuries. This year we leaned into learning and un-learning, and continued to explore the connection between race and housing.

contractor incubator

This year we launched a Contractor Incubator that not only helps us reach interested contractors for work, but also helps us to be intentional about working alongside contractors that are reflective of the communities that we work in.

advocacy

We also raised our voice for affordable housing and called on our supporters to do the same. On Election Day 2021, Philadelphia residents voted on a ballot measure to permanently allocate funds to the Housing Trust Fund, and Habitat’s message was clear: “vote yes”.

In local media and through a sustained push to our supporters, Habitat led the charge and we won! Voters overwhelming approved the measure and approximately $25 million will be allocated to the Housing Trust Fund annually moving forward.

a world where everyone has a decent place to live

Though we focus our work in Philadelphia, we are a part an international Habitat affiliate network that works worldwide to ensure safe, affordable housing for all. As a U.S. affiliate, we participate in Habitat for Humanity International’s tithe program and have traveled to other Habitat’s to help build around the world.

Habitat Philadelphia currently partners with Habitat Nicaragua, sending a tithe each month to support their work. We have contributed more than $530,000 globally to various tithe partners over the course of our history and are proud to play a part in addressing the global housing crisis.
