Women's Build National Sponsor
Starting in the summer of 2004, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia's Women's Build program will partner with Lowe's to build a home in Philadelphia. The house that Lowe's is sponsoring is one of two Women's Build houses being built on Priscilla Street in Germantown. For 58 years Lowe's has been involved with community improvement. Committing $2 million to assist in the construction of more than 100 homes, Lowe's served as the 2004 national sponsor of 15 Habitat Women Build projects across the country. The Women's Build program actively engages women in the construction of Habitat homes, challenging and empowering them to make home ownership a reality for families in need. "Lowe's well-established commitment to the communities it serves is a testament to the character of its company and of its leadership. As a well-respected and successful national retailer of top quality building materials, it is a perfect partner for our organization," said Millard Fuller, Habitat's president and founder. "Its support will not only help us help more families achieve their dream of owning a home, but it will also ensure a healthy future for a wonderful and rewarding Women's Build program." Habitat Philadelphia's Women's Build houses are built in the same manner as all other Habitat houses, but with a twist--namely, that it is a female-sponsored (and therefore a female-empowering) effort. Nationwide, women celebrities, state first ladies and women from all walks of life have worked together to build more than 450 Habitat homes since 1991.
