Group Build Day Request Form

Habitat Philadelphia relies on volunteers for every aspect of its program. An important component of our program is providing partner families with ample opportunity to earn the 350 hours of sweat equity needed as down payment on their homes. Because partner families are given first priority and because Habitat Philadelphia renovates traditional style Philadelphia row homes, each site is limited to 10 people per shift, so our volunteer slots fill quickly. We consider a group to be 3-10 people.

To accommodate as many volunteers as possible, Habitat Philadelphia has instituted the following changes to its Group Build Day program, beginning on February 1, 2007:

  1. Volunteer Groups will be scheduled one month in advance. This will eliminate some of the long wait times that groups have experienced in the past, and allow for us to better utilize individual volunteers who rarely get to spend a day on a build site.
  2. All groups will need to raise $2,500 to cover the cost of their group build day. Habitat Philadelphia currently spends 85 cents of every dollar it receives on building houses and other program-related expenses. In order to maintain this high ratio of program/administrative costs, we are asking groups to help us offset the costs of group coordination by raising the funds needed to cover the day's expenses. We ask groups to take on this burden because we, like you, recognize the team-building benefits that are realized from your group experience. We offer some helpful tools to assist you in these fundraising efforts, and we will also provide lunch for your build day.
