"Whoever has two shirts must give one to the man who has none. This is outrageously simple, and the only solution that will work."

Volunteer With Habitat Philadelphia

Building a better world - one home, one family at a time.

This is the spirit of Habitat for Humanity that has inspired thousands of people and organizations in the Philadelphia community to get involved and help make a difference. It started as a grass-roots effort and has become an organized movement dedicated to providing simple, decent, affordable homes for families who lack adequate shelter.

Volunteers on the construction site work as a team and are assigned a specific task for the day. Drywall a bedroom, landscape the backyard, paint the kitchen, lay flooring - just some of the many construction jobs we have each day for volunteers. Skilled construction staff members monitor volunteers every step of the way - provide training and oversight throughout the day to ensure that volunteers stay safe. Working on the construction site is hard work, but it is also fun and inspiring.

There are many ways to get involved in Habitat Philadelphia's work:

  • Individual Construction Volunteers:  swing a hammer on-site; volunteers work on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Volunteer Groups:  faith partners, corporations, school groups, civic organizations - bring together 10 teammates to help build.
  • ReStore Volunteers: help with donation pickups, organizing, cleaning, staffing and selling at our Restore.
  • Committee Volunteers:  support various aspects of Habitat's programs including: family selection and support, special events, communications, faith relations, finance, site acquisition and project planning.  If interested in participating on a committee, please contact our Development Director, Corinne O'Connell at corinneo@habtiatphiladelphia.org or 215.765.6000 x22.
  • Office Volunteers:  work behind the scenes to provide criticial assistance with volunteers, family services, human resources and facilities management.
