Part-Time ReStore Associate

Position Objective: Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia’s ReStore seeks an organized, efficient, flexible, energetic and personable individual for the position of ReStore Associate. The ReStore sells new and gently-used donated building supplies, home improvement merchandise and furniture to the public. Qualified candidates will have a “customer first” mindset, demonstrate hustle, offer a background in scheduling and logistics and have the desire to work in a nontraditional retail environment. Experience with construction or home improvement related retail sales is a plus. This position offers an opportunity for retail professional to apply his/her skills to raise funds to advance the mission of Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia. ReStore proceeds help to build and repair more homes in partnership with families in need.

Reports Directly To: ReStore Assistant Manager

Service week (days/hours): Tuesday - Saturday 20-30 hours per week

Required Meetings: General Staff Meeting (Once a month)

Personal Vehicle Required: No

Key Responsibility Area: Sales Floor

  • Provide outstanding customer service; create a positive and informative retail experience for customers
  • Organize and clean inventory on sales floor
  • Ensure inventory is priced and fully ticketed
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized sales floor; clear aisles, available baskets and shopping carts, etc
  • Assist with the retail operation including: cash register operations, inquiry calls, etc  Supervise volunteers to ensure customer service

Key Responsibility Area: Warehouse

  • Participate in pickup and arrival of donations; check all receipts on donations that are being loaded
  • Receive drop off donations in a friendly and professional manner and provide a donation receipt
  • Prepare donated merchandise for sales floor, i.e., cleaning, repairing and pricing according to store standards and minimize shrinkage
  • Organize warehouse supplies
  • Supervise volunteers in completion of warehouse work assignments and provide a positive experience for volunteers
  • Maintain a safe work environment

Key Responsibility Area: Donations

  • Ensure ReStore goals for prompt response/return calls from prospective donors are met; interact positively with and provide superior customer service to donors and customers
  • As needed, drive truck or assist driver in donation pickups representing Habitat for Humanity in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Create efficient pick-up schedules and routes for the ReStore Truck Driver Key Responsibility Area: Safety and Store Culture
  • Following all store policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • All other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Understand the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and have the desire to promote it
  • Ability to effectively serve people of different races, religions, incomes and education levels
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Good analytical and organization skills required
  • Experience in volunteer management or hands on instruction
  • Operate or be trainable in operating a cash register with proficiency and accuracy
  • Able to supervise volunteers with a wide range of skills and abilities
  • Knowledge of fair market values of new and used building materials preferred
  • Retail sales and customer service experience preferred
  • Retail experience with construction or building materials/hardware preferred
  • Routing/scheduling and/or logistics experience preferred
  • MS Office suite, particularly Excel and Outlook preferred
  • Proficiency in a second language preferred
  • Working knowledge of Philadelphia geographic area and roads.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements to Perform Duties:

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds, perform heavy manual tasks, work standing or walking for a full work day, and be capable of performing in non-climated-controlled environment (cold of winter and heat of summer).
