“Working side-by-side with colleagues, you have real conversations and really get to know them. It takes a village to build a Habitat home, and building together gives you a strong sense of community."
Pat Patrick, Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), House Sponsor

Application/Selection Process

Application and Selection Process for Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia:

  1. During selection periods, Habitat Philadelphia will host information sessions.  All interested applicants must attend the full session.  Applications will be distributed at these information sessions.

  2. Habitat will process applications and determine if the family meets the basic requirements of the program.

  3. Applications are given a preliminary financial review to determine if their household income meets our guidelines.

  4. Applicants who appear to pass the preliminary financial review will have their credit report pulled and reviewed.

  5. Applicants who have fair to excellent credit may be selected for a home visit and be interviewed by two or three members of Habitat's Family Selection Committee.  The purpose of the home visit is to learn more about a family's current living situation in order to assess their need for housing and to answer any additional questions the family might have about Habitat.

  6. Applicants who demonstrate a need for housing, an ability to pay and a willingness to partner are approved for selection by the Family Selection Committee and the Habtiat for Humanity Philadelphia Board of Directors and become partner families!  Together the selected families and Habtiat Philadelphia sign a "Partnership Agreement."  Because there are many more applicants than available homes, the Family Services Committee will select families who meet all of the qualifications and who have the greatest need for housing.

Federal Credit Equal Opportunity Act

Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia partner family selections are made in compliance with the Federal Credit Equal Opportunity Act on an impartial an non-discriminatory basis.  Race, color, national origin, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, age, religion and disability play no part in the choice.
