AmeriCorps at Habitat Philadelphia

AmeriCorps members are central to Habitat Philadelphia's ongoing growth! Each year we partner with the Corporation for National and Community Service to provide opportunities for you to dedicate a year of service to Philadelphia through the Americorps National Direct and VISTA programs.  AmeriCorps members serve as team leaders and ambassadors to the community—it's a great way to serve our community, build personal and professional development, and engage in Habitat Philadelphia's mission.

We are now accepting applications for 2013-14 AmeriCorps positions!

How to Apply

See below for AmeriCorps positions for which we are accepting applications.  The application process has two separate components.  If you are interested in pursuing an AmeriCorps position, please do both of the following:

  1. Apply for the position through the AmeriCorps website (links listed below each position).  This portion is submitted to Habitat for Humanity International and takes 1 – 2 weeks before we can begin reviewing it.
  2. Send your resume, cover letter, and three references directly to Henry Randolph, the affiliate’s AmeriCorps Host Site Manager, at henryr@habitatphiladelphia.org.  This will allow us to begin reviewing your candidacy immediately. It's fine if your resume and references are the same as in the AmeriCorps application, but make sure that your cover letter explains your interest in the specific position you're applying for.

For questions, please contact Henry Randolph at henryr@habitatphiladelphia.org or 215 765 6000 x17.

History of the AmeriCorps program

In 1994, Habitat for Humanity International and the AmeriCorps National Service Program entered into a partnership aimed at mobilizing more volunteers in the fight against poverty housing. Habitat Philadelphia has hosted AmeriCorps members since 1996.

Benefits Through AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps members contribute a year of service and in return receive a modest living stipend, health insurance, an education award, job training, and personal and professional growth opportunities. You will leave your year of service not only with new transferable skills, but also with a sense of community that comes with no other employment opportunity.

AmeriCorps members receive living allowance of $12,100 for the program term (before taxes, as of 2012). The living allowance will be distributed every other week, and is subject to taxation.

AmeriCorps members also receive an educational award of $5,550 (before taxes, as of 2012) granted upon completion of the AmeriCorps term. A partial educational award will not be issued if a member leaves his/her term of service early. The award can be used to pay off present educational loans or can be used to pay for future schooling. (The award can be used up to seven years after the member's final date of service.)  Please visit the AmeriCorps website for further information and restrictions regarding benefits.
