AmeriCorps at Habitat Philadelphia

AmeriCorps works by engaging our community around service to Habitat Philadelphia's mission.  National Direct AmeriCorps members lead volunteer teams on every single house that we build and repair; VISTA members pave the way for future growth and service to more families.  And AmeriCorps members are our next generation of leaders: during their year with us, members gain invaluable experience that prepares them for a lifetime of service to their community.

Application to the AmeriCorps program

Are you interested in dedicating a year of community service to Habitat's mission of increasing access to safe, affordable housing for low-income Philadelphia families?  We open our application process in the spring each year, usually in April.  Please check this webpage then for updates and more information.

Benefits Through AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps members contribute a year of service and in return receive a modest living stipend, a basic health insurance plan, an education award, job training, and personal and professional growth opportunities. You will leave your year of service not only with new transferable skills, but also with a sense of community that comes with no other employment opportunity.

AmeriCorps members receive living allowance of $12,100 for the program term (before taxes, as of 2014). The living allowance will be distributed every other week, and is subject to taxation.

AmeriCorps members also receive an educational award of $5,550 (before taxes, as of 2014) granted upon completion of the AmeriCorps term. A partial educational award will not be issued if a member leaves his/her term of service early. The award can be used to pay off present educational loans or can be used to pay for future schooling. (The award can be used up to seven years after the member's final date of service.)  Please visit the AmeriCorps website for further information and restrictions regarding benefits.
