Your Drink Is Stronger Than You Think

Throughout Philadelphia, coffee is getting stronger. Tea is making a difference. And cocoa is performing miracles. From September 9th through December 31st, 5 cents from every coffee or tea beverage purchased at participating Independents Coffee Cooperative locations will be donated to help Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia's Green Affordable Philadelphia project.

Habitat Philadelphia has a strong commitment to being good stewards in our community and with the help of thousands of coffee, tea and cocoa drinkers, our commitment to building affordable, energy efficient housing for those Philadelphians in need will grow stronger than ever before. Click Here for a list of participating coffee shops.

Independents Coffee Cooperative is a group of independently owned coffeehouses focused on increasing the sale of fair-trade & organic coffee, while making a positive impact in our communities, on the environment, and in the lives of the people who produce the products we sell.

RAE Restaurant Helps Habitat Philadelphia Raise the Roof

Third Annual Homecoming Boasts a New Venue

On October 22nd Philadelphia's own RAE Restaurant will host Habitat Philadelphia's thrid annual Homecoming Event. As in years past, the event is an opportunity to pay tribute to our newest homeowners and welcome them to Habitat's Homecoming Court. At the event we also acknowledge the generous support of those sponsors who helped to under write the hard costs of building this year's homes.

This year's event will feature a sampling of the favorites from chef/owner Daniel Stern's two renowned restaurants, RAE and Gayle all served in the Atrium of the CIRA Centre. Earlier in the year, Chef Stern donated the food and wine for a reception highlighting Habitat's Green Affordable Philadelphia Project of LEED certified homes.

In addition to great food and drink, the evening will once again feature silent and live auctions with a host of items not to be missed. Two items of particular interest include an unaccompanied round of golf for four at the Maidstone Golf Club and dinner for two at a different Steven Starr restaurant each month for a year. Other items can be viewed by clicking here.

This year's event sponsors include Origlio Beverage, Deutsche Bank, Thomson Scientific, Ballard Spahr, Turner Construction, Sovereign Bank, Blank Rome, James Wentling Architecture. Additional sponsorships are still available. Tickets for the event are $150 per person and may be purchased online or by calling 215.765.6000 ext 22.

Baby Boomer Singles Build

On October 20, 2007 Habitat Philadelphia will host the third Singles Build, with a slight twist. This one's for the over 40 set and early indications are that it will be the best attended yet. The event, which allows single volunteers to work side by side on a build site, enjoy lunch, and then mingle over an after party first debuted in May. While all who attended found it a great experience, the initial build had fewer men than anticipated. Fortunately, thanks to support from KYW News Radio, who ran on-air promos and banner ads for the event, and the support of Meet Market Adventures, and SinglesEvents.com, the September event boasted a turnout of 40% eligible bachelors!

Based on feedback from past attendees and prospective registrants for the event, we have decided to focus on an event just for the over forty set and those who enjoy their company. Working with Coming of Age, who has helped to recruit some great volunteers for Habitat Philadelphia, we look forward to the October event being a sell out.

While many singles find the dating scene overwhelming, baby boomers have a better idea what they are looking for in a mate and with established careers are also less willing to spend their free time on the dating scene. " I want to spend my free time working to make the world a better place", noted Jan a regular Habitat volunteer, "and I want to meet others who share that same passion. If I can get both at the same time, it is a win/win situation".

To register for one of the two remaining dates for Singles Build, click here. We guarantee you will learn new skills, meet new people just like you, and help Habitat Philadelphia meet the demand for affordable housing in Philadelphia. In other words - Every Date Has a Happy Ending!
