Home Repair Survey

Habitat Philadelphia is considering a new stream of revenue to fund its programs and is also exploring ways to further enhance the overall quality of life and return on investment in the neighborhoods where we build. Under consideration is a Home Repair service that would charge market rates for repairs. These repairs would be performed by staff under the direction of a trained professional dedicated to running this project. Proceeds from this program would be used to provide home repairs on a sliding scale basis to homeowners in the communities in which we are building. This would enable long time residents to stay in their homes while also improving real estate values in the area - further protecting Habitat's decision to invest in these neighborhoods.

Women's Build Construction Classes Are Back!

Summer courses are available for training women in construction

Due to the great response from our first Women's Construction Training Classes, the course will be held again this summer! For eight consecutive weeks, participants will gain hands on instruction and experience in a variety of topics including: the use of hand and power tools, basic framing knowledge, roofing, insulation, drywall, painting, flooring and finish carpentry. Everyone who participates will also have an opportunity to build on a Habitat work site on a day reserved just for class members.

When: June 2 - July 21, 2007
Time: 9am - 12pm
Where: Habitat headquarters (1829 N 19th St. Philadelphia, PA 19121)
Cost: $295 per person for the entire course ($45 for individual classes)

Proceeds from the class will be used to fund the next women's build house due to break ground in the fall of 2007.

Space is limited, so interested women are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
